For years, teen Boggy held the Netflix queue hostage, moving the rest of the family's selections around like chess pieces on a board, or deleting them as heartlessly as toppling pawns. Then he magnanimously created the Boggy Movie Tournament, and a meta game was born. The playing field is finally open. The competition is fierce. You'll never recommend another movie without asking yourself, "But, is it a winner?"

The Players

By Eric

John

Likes: nonfiction, classics, World War films
Dislikes: cartoons, feel-good movies, fun.
Catch phrase: "Zzzzzzz."

Bio: The paterfamilias and breadwinner of the family, John still has not found time to read the rules of the tournament. He knows enough to try to keep his movie choice secret, which he fails at when he becomes school-boy excited over some historical or technical aspect of a boring movie the rest of us are dreading. John is easy to predict, but do not cater to him unless you think the movie can pick up two other votes.

Beth

Likes: everything.
Dislikes: everything.
Catchphrase: "Do I vote for my favorite or the best one?"

Bio: Given enough time, Beth would flip-flop between her top two movies forever. If the U.S. electorate were made up of Beths, we'd just pull the president from a lottery to save ourselves a lot of heartache. Despite this, she is the most thoughtful and reasonable participant. She puts the most effort into choosing who to vote for and choosing her movie. Often she regrets her choice immediately once it is made. Count on Beth to like anything that you like, especially if you talk it up in the week before the vote!

Sally

Likes: action movies
Dislikes: Movie Time, plots
Catch Phrase: "I promise I'll come over for Movie Time if you wait until Thursday." (lie)

Bio: It turns out that the smartest girl in the world who has had a 4.0 her entire life is the stupidest movie critic in the world. If there aren't car chases or gunfights in your movie, count on Sally to vote against you. Luckily, she rarely participates in the tournament because she is so busy.

Eric

Likes: psychological thrillers
Dislikes: losing
Catch Phrase: "I already know who I'm voting for."

Bio: The Boggy Movie Tournament was created by Eric, who had sole control over Netflix and needed to prove to everyone how hard choosing movies is. The tournament quickly devolved into a cutthroat competition. Eric will disguise which movie he chose, talk it up, and then tell you how much he secretly hated it once the votes are in. He is an asshole.

Gene

Likes: bad movies
Dislikes (violently) : when they put the credits before the movie
Catchphrase: "Here comes Movie King"

Bio: Gene "Movie King" Cochrane is a little pig shit who can always pull a winner out of his ass. Part of his success is his solid Sally vote and prison-tight memory. Gene can find almost any movie fun, even foreign films. He, Eric, and Beth are the only three reasonable family members who will vote for any genre. Try to pick up votes from these three while catering to a crazy (John, Lydia, Sally).

Lydia

Likes: anime
Dislikes: Movie Time, non-fiction
Catchphrase: "Piplup."

Bio: When Lydia was growing up, we forgot to show her Disney Movies. She was raised on an unhealthy diet of Dragon Ball Z and video games. Because of this, she, like Sally, will choose the most brain-dead option from a list of movies, after having half-watched them over her Gameboy. Do not cater to Lydia, do not count on her vote. If she likes no movies but her own, she will vote for Piplup. This is explicitly against the rules.
